The Foothills Rails-to-Trails Coalition is running a contest for artists who want to help us create a mascot and related graphics for the coalition. We are looking for ideas that could be used on our websites, shirts, stickers, and other giveaways. It is meant to be a fun graphic, appealing to both kids and adults, to be used in addition to our official logo.

Sasquatch is an unofficial mascot of the coalition. He is known to make appearances at our events—including our annual Rainier to Ruston race as shown in the pictures below. Designs related to our furry friend would be a welcome option.

However, other ideas related to our mission and history, are fair game as well. Many of our trails are built on former railroad beds. They are used by bikers, walkers, runners, horse riders. See our website for more information about our history and plans

    What does the winner get?

    1.     A $100 REI or Amazon gift card.
    2.     A story about them in the Trail Line News.
    3.     Potential for future contract work.
    4.     A link to their website from ours.
    5.     An ad in the Trail Line News.
    6.     The opportunity to support a great non-profit building an expanding network of trails in Pierce County and beyond.

    Submission requirements:

    1.     Up to three versions of their idea in jpeg format. For example, the mascot could be engaged in different trail related activities in different versions.
    2.     Graphics should include our domain name: www.FoothillsCoalition.org
    3.     The winner will submit their final work in a suitable vector format for printing, our website, and other uses.
    4.     Submit jpeg entries to admin@foothillscoalition.org by the November 30th, 2022 deadline. Questions can also be submitted to that same email address.

Click here to get a PDF version of the contest information.

    Legal Type Mumbo Jumbo:

    1.     Winning entries are the property of the Foothills Rails-to-Trails Coalition.
    2.     The coalition may choose to declare no winner if entries don’t meet our needs.
    3.     Contestants do not need to be a member of the coalition to enter.

In September of 2021, the coalition gave a presentation to the Buckley City Council about a new project for a “Foothills Trail Historical Pavilion, Dr. Tait Plaza," honoring one of the founders of the coalition. See the video about the project narrated by Robin Partington here

You can support the effort to build this pavilion. See this page for more information about making personal donations and corporate sponsors. To join the planning committee or help with the project in other ways, contact treasurer@foothillscoalition.org

The Foothills Coalition has provided generous grants to Pierce County Parks, City of Buckley, and King County Parks to complete a critical connection of the Foothills Trail across county lines. The project completes a pedestrian bridge across the White River to connect the Foothills Trail in Enumclaw (King County) to the trail in Buckley (Pierce County). This new link (Expected to start construction in 2022) will allow bikers, walkers and runners to cross county lines on a continuous stretch of trail from Puyallup to Enumclaw without ever needing to set foot or tire on a roadway (other than crossing them). We are excited to support this important project and further connect communities BEYOND Pierce County!
