Bernie was a dedicated champion of the Foothills Trail and one of its earliest advocates. A longtime supporter of the Rails-to-Trails movement, Bernie played a vital role in advancing the vision of a connected, accessible trail system throughout Pierce County. In honor of his contributions, a rest stop with bench and picnic table along the Orting to South Prairie section of the trail, known as “Bernie’s Place, was named for him.
